'Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.' - John Steinbeck
Teacher Philosophy
I am a Visual Art teacher with a passion for both creativity and Wellbeing. My goal is to deliver a high-quality holistic and inclusive education, characterised by high expectations and the pursuit of excellence. I see nurturing student wellbeing as crucial in this vision and in developing happier more resilient students capable of authentic expression and lifelong learning. My teaching approach varies for appropriateness of specific situations and sees the 'process' as key to deep assimilation of important knowledge, skills and attitudes. It is my aim to act as a guide in an environment of discovery where each individual student can grow to meet their full potential. I take great joy to learn from my students as much as they learn from me to both improve the students learning and my own teaching. I apply varied ongoing assessment types and seek design input from students before setting the success criteria for their summative assessments. It is my belief the classroom is a living community in which everyone, from the principal to the students to the parents, must contribute in order to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
