Special Education Needs; SEN Education
'The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.' Michelangelo
I believe in inclusive education for all. With society and our classrooms becoming ever more complex it is crucial to develop strategies for best practice with a wide variety of personalities and students with SEN needs. As educators, we must familiarise ourselves with the prefered learning style of our students; Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic VAK. Preparation, differentiation, patience and empathy are key in fostering best performance from our pupils. Additionally, I see engaging in continued professional development to understand the needs of diverse groups of students crucial in fostering the best outcomes in my classroom.
The Department of Education and Skills (DES) provides for the education of children with Special Education Needs SEN through a number of support mechanisms depending on the child’s assessed disability.
